Oh! So Refreshing

Initiative Overview

Oh! So Refreshing

Ohio is a state full of character, amazing people and beloved businesses. With multiple bottling groups spread across the state, Pepsi has had a community presence here for decades and we’ve seen firsthand just how exciting – and refreshing – Ohio can be. That’s why we were thrilled to kick off our “OH! So Refreshing” campaign and give back to the communities and businesses that we love so much.

Looking at how we can make an impact while also bringing in locals to join the effort, we crafted two separate initiatives to celebrate businesses in meaningful, interactive ways. With “OH! So Locally Refreshed” we partnered with an iconic local restaurant to give them a custom refresh based on their needs, while also telling their story and spotlighting what their community means to them. To reach people across the state, we launched “Pepsi Passport,” a digital campaign that incentivized locals to explore Ohio and visit specific businesses around the state. Additionally, to support the organizations that support so many, we donated $15,000 to the Ohio Restaurant Association, which has proudly served the state’s restaurant, food service and hospitality industry since 1920 and provided much-needed support during the pandemic. In all our interactions, we were reminded that there’s just something about pairing Pepsi with Ohio that we just can’t get enough of.

Celebrating a Community and the Joy it Brings

Oh! So Locally Refreshed

As part of our celebration of Ohio businesses, we wanted to do something special for some of the state’s most popular restaurants. For Mike’s Place, a locally-loved restaurant dating back to 1987, we surprised Mike Kostensky, the owner, with $30,000 worth of upgrades. And, since the restaurant is known for its eclectic old-school décor, we threw in a vintage Pepsi vending machine. Over at Tommy’s Pizza, another staple in the community, we donated a new Pepsi machine, new seating and more to help keep this institution, and its traditions, alive.

Pepsi Passport

With the launch of our Pepsi Passport program, we encouraged locals to visit some of Ohio’s most iconic locations – from the ballpark to the zoo, restaurants to amusement parks. Using the Pepsi Passport mobile app, users could check-in at designated locations to unlock stamps and be entered to win exclusive ‘Only in Ohio’ prizes just by supporting their favorite local spots.

“When the whole COVID thing started, Pepsi was one of the first people to contact me with material for reopening the restaurant and helping with our carryout… They have always been partners. Anything we need, they come down with.”
